I LOVE MY JOB! (explained)

I really do love my job. I love quilts. I love longarming. I love my customers. I love working at home.

Sometimes the saying "so many quilts, so little time" is really true. I'm working twice the hours I normally work. When I'm not working, I'm worrying about what work isn't getting done. That part of my job I don't love.

Since that is something I have control over, I'm working to do that. My work schedule has been readjusted and my waiting list just got a little longer and the sun will still rise in the morning (who knew?).

God has given me a great life -- a wonderful husband, great kids, a measure of financial security (I have a roof, food, clothing, and a job), and I feel it's just not right to turn something that is great into something that drains me and makes me rather unpleasant to be around.

Tomorrow, I'm going to the ballet. I hope to post about that and a few other things next week.

I feel as you do. My longarming became a "job", not a "joy". I took a part time job in our schools as an aide, just to have a steady income and now do the longarming on the side, as I have time. I have so much less stress now and I'm so much happier. I have time to work in the garden, cook, be with my family. Quilting has become fun again! Find what works for you and stick with it...good luck!

sounds like you have a good attitude about things now, Debby. Prioritizing, it would seem, is the key to having some balance.

"The sun will rise tomorrow..." you said... just don't forget, It'll rise an hour earlier!

And I guess, you can be grateful that your work is so nice that you DO have many happy customers and a waiting list. :)

Just goes to show that even a job you love can become all consuming. Good for you for putting the brakes on and reassessing.

I am sure that your customers love your work so well that they will be willing to wait a little longer!

heeheehee--you sound like me! I have a quilt studio where I teach and also teach at a few other stores and I LOVE every minute of it. But after a while of running on super speed, it wears you down. Believe me, you will love it even more when you pace yourself and give your own self (and projects) some time too. Sounds like you hit a vein a lot of us have!! :)
