Last week I drove through Massachusetts and stopped at a cute new quilting shop: Sturbridge Quilting and Sewing Center.

The owner, Gina Zeleznok, is a talented quilter and teacher (she's also a good friend of mine):

Design Wall Monday

Did you see the red and white quilt exhibit in New York City last year? I did not and I am still very sad about that.

I have one of the greatest jobs ever: I get to travel to different quilt shops and quilt shows all over North America. My travel season is from March until November, so I am packing my bags. Every year I tell myself I am going to make a memory quilt with fabric from each place I visit and each year I neglect to get organized and actually do it.

Not so this year! I am making a red and white quilt with fabric from each place I visit. I have already visited Sew Inspired in Simsbury, CT. If you have not yet been to their store, you must plan a trip soon!

I bought a lot of things at the shop, but I bought a fat quarter of red fabric and a fat quarter of white fabric. I made these two blocks:

Each block is labeled with the shop name and location:

I always remember to buy fabric wherever I go, but I hope I remember to specifically buy red and white fabrics at each shop and show so I have a great 2012 memory quilt!

Start Spreading the News...

I am going to New York City this weekend. There are a lot of quilty things going on there this weekend.

I am going to The Empire Quilt Guild Show. I will be hanging out with the folks from the The Quilt Basket. They have a booth at the show. If you are going to be there, stop and say hi!

You should also check out Infinite Variety a huge red and white quilt exhibit at the Armory sponsored by the American Folk Art Museum. I am so sorry to have to miss that one.

I just had a great day with some quilters on Long Island. I hope they learned a lot; I surely learned a lot from them!

Earlier this week I mentioned that I did a little bird watching, but I never mentioned why I was headed to Connecticut.

I spent two days with ladies from New York, Ohio, Maine, Vermont, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Indiana, South Carolina, and one gentleman from Louisiana.

Fun fact: 16% of us were named Debby/Debbie.

Sightseeing

I was driving through Connecticut on my way to Sew Inspired quilt shop. I was enjoying the scenery and I noticed that some of the scenery was enjoying me:

I started screaming "An ostrich? Is that an ostrich? Maybe an emu? I should go back and take a picture." So I did.

Well dear reader, is this an ostrich? or maybe an emu?
