Making Business Travel an Adventure

This weekend, I'm out of town teaching at Bits 'N Pieces Quilt Shoppe in Pelham, NH.  I teach here several times a year and really love this group of quilters.  Even so, driving on the highways through major US cities to get here and staying in hotel rooms and all of the other details of travel can be draining.  I like to look for the fun when I travel.  Here are some of this weekend's finds:

When I saw an article listing the "33 Best Donut Shops in the US" I was riveted.  I noted that one was on my way from home to New Hampshire and simply had to stop.  Dottie's in Woodbury, CT:

The donuts weren't glamorous, but dang! they were good!:

I will definitely stop here again and try to do so earlier in the morning when they still have Boston Cream and Jelly-filled doughnuts.

I have driven past this sign many times and laughed myself silly, but this week my hotel is across the street from this restaurant:

Now I'm positive there is a good reason for the Italian restaurant to have a French name, but no one I asked knew it.  Most chuckled and said that they'd never really thought of it before.

I hope to have more adventures on my way home from New Hampshire.  I do have a list of the best mac and cheese in the US....

I love that you do this. I always search out the FUN places on my routes too. Usually (!!) I have a grand time, have visited some really offbeat dives and quirky little stops. Occasionally I wonder just what exactly I thought I was doing, but not often.

Finding the fun helps make it all fabulous. And...donuts!
