Quilt Pic of the Week

This week's quilt is the sample I made from the new FabuLux thread I designed for WonderFil Specialty Threads.

The details:

Top Thread:  FabuLux Olive Trees (40 weight three-ply trilobal polyester)
Bobbin Thread:  DecoBob 591 Sage (80 weight polyester)
Machine:  Hazel, my sweet Sweet Sixteen
Needle:  size 18/110
Battings:  one layer of Quilter's Dream cotton select, one layer of Fairfield wool

I pieced a small quilt using white fabric, green fabric, and black fabric. I wanted to see how the thread looked on matching and contrasting fabrics:

I stitched ribbon candy in the green stripe.  If you know that ribbon candy is my favorite quilting pattern, you will say, "Of course you did!"

I moved to the quilt fabric and stitched a swirly feather:

Then I filled the background with some pebbles:

On the black fabric, I stitched in some diamonds:

And, surprising no one, more ribbon candy:

I thought the diamonds looked a bit empty, so I filled them with stars and pebbled any empty spaces on the side of my diamond design:

This quilt is all bound and I am pretty thrilled with it.  I love how the thread blended into the green fabric, showed up as green on the white fabric, and nearly looks like gold metallic on the black fabric!  It's hard to believe that this piece was quilted with only one color of thread.

I can't wait to get started on the next FabuLux sample!
